Who it suits. Couples who like walks, long breakfasts and one view they can remember, rather than seven viewpoints they cannot.
What it leaves out. Sonamarg unless you both actively want that drive. Group activities. A shawl-shop “cultural evening”.
Day by day
- 1
Arrive and stop
Sleep: Srinagar, Nigeen or a quiet houseboat · Airport
Check in, walk, eat on the boat or nearby. No garden.
Eat. Something easy. The lake at dusk is the event.
- 2
Lake morning, old city later
Sleep: Same room · A shikara, then a short hop ashore
Dawn water. Old city in the afternoon at a pace that allows getting slightly lost. One shrine, not four.
Eat. Bakery. A seated dinner you chose yourselves.
- 3
One garden, then Gulmarg
Sleep: Gulmarg · Garden loop, then 1.5–2 hours up
Nishat in the morning only. Gulmarg by mid-afternoon so you are not hunting a room in the dark. Gondola the next morning, not tonight.
Eat. Lunch before the climb. Simple dinner.
- 4
Gulmarg morning, down to Srinagar
Sleep: Srinagar · 1.5–2 hours down
Phase 1. Skip phase 2 if either of you dislikes queues or cold wind. The meadow is allowed to be enough. Afternoon back in Srinagar in a hotel or the same boat if you kept it.
Eat. A good Srinagar dinner. Wazwan if you want a long shared meal and you are not shy of eating with your hand.
- 5
Pahalgam
Sleep: Pahalgam, river side · 2–2.5 hours
Leave late morning. Walk the river. No Betaab today.
Eat. Trout if it looks honest.
- 6
Nothing scheduled until noon
Sleep: Pahalgam · Optional Aru, 30–40 minutes
This is the point of the trip. If you go to Aru, go late morning and come back for a long evening. If you do not, the day is still a success.
Eat. A long breakfast. Dinner wherever you already liked.
- 7
Back for the flight
Sleep: Out · 2–2.5 hours plus airport
A calm drive. Pampore only if the flowers are actually in season and you have an hour to spare.
Eat. Breakfast, then the road.
Where to sleep
Three bases only: Srinagar water, one Gulmarg night, two Pahalgam nights. A houseboat is romantic when the boat is clean and quiet. Look at it in daylight. Nigeen is usually calmer than the main Dal row.
