Who it suits. Anyone with a weekend and a flight into Srinagar, including a solo traveller who would rather walk the old city than collect car parks.
What it leaves out. Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Gurez, and any second hill station. You can add one of those only by deleting the old city.
Day by day
- 1
Land, Boulevard, early night
Sleep: Srinagar · Airport to the lake, 45–70 minutes
If you land after mid-afternoon, do not start a monument list. Walk the Boulevard, eat, sleep. A short shikara is reasonable only while there is still light and you are not already irritable.
Eat. Bakery bread and tea if you are in early. A simple restaurant meal if you are late. Save wazwan for a day you are not travelling.
- 2
Old city, then one garden
Sleep: Srinagar · Inside the city, plus the garden road
Morning in the old city: Jama Masjid, the lanes, Khanqah if it is not prayer time. Afternoon at either Nishat or Shalimar, not both. The drive between a garden and the old city is short on a map and long in traffic.
Eat. Noon chai late morning. A proper lunch after the old city, not inside a shawl shop.
- 3
One outing, then the flight
Sleep: Srinagar · Gulmarg is 1.5–2 hours each way
If the flight is after 6pm, Gulmarg phase 1 only, and turn around at a fixed hour. If the flight is earlier, skip Gulmarg. Use the morning for a dawn shikara or Hazratbal and leave the meadow for a longer trip.
Eat. Breakfast in Srinagar. Do not rely on Gulmarg for a real meal before a flight.
Where to sleep
One room for all three nights, on or near the Boulevard if it is your first time, or toward the old city if that is the day you care about. Moving hotels on a three-day trip is a hobby, not a plan.
